What does a business consultant do in his/her everyday life?
      The consultant profession is relatively new in Romania and implies a liberal activity, meaning a profession that requires specific knowledge, highly qualified professional training, carried out in a responsibly and professionally independent way, by those who provide intellectual and/or creative services, for the convenience of customers and third parties.
      A consultant’s daily activities are complex and miscellaneous. Consulting is basically oriented towards entrepreneurship and is largely based on projects. The size of projects may vary depending on the consulting type, company and the customer demands. Also, projects can be completed individually or in a team and can be developed in various locations, both nationally and internationally.

The consulting field involves the carrying out of activities such as:
-          Performing specific research and data collection
-          Making organizational level analyses
-          Communicating with employees, management team and other people – representatives of client companies – in order to identify the problems to be solved
-          Enunciating hypotheses and implementing  recommendations / solutions
-          Providing support for implementing recommendations / solutions
-          Organizing trainings and workshops
-          Preparing business plans and presenting the latter to customers
-          Providing management services for projects and programs
-          Conducting and coordinating team members, including analysts
-          Promoting leadership in relationships with customers
This wide range of skills and competencies, developed during the Master Program, will allow you to implement the acquired knowledge in various environments, such as:
§  Business consulting firms
§  Business training firms
§  Multinational companies
§  Small and medium enterprises
§  Non-governmental organizations
§  Public institutions
Why this master program and not another one?
Due to the innovative elements it introduces:
The Business ConsultingMaster Program is designed so as to allow students to work in project teams, during classes. Students belonging to each academic year are divided into 8-10 teams, each team having 5 – 6 members and a manager/coordinator. The purpose of such pattern is to cultivate among students an open, positive and performance-oriented attitude, through a program that encourages their initiative. The evaluation will be made based on the students’ individual contribution, surprising at the same time everyone’s participation to the team to which he/she belongs.
The program’s teachers and consultants wish to share their knowledge in their field of interest, by means of case-studies presenting current realities and connecting you to the labour market. Therefore, according to the necessities of each group of students, they will identify the fields requiring a particular attention. Permanently, business environment specialists are invited to share their experience, thus contributing to the enhancing of the course value and facilitating the accumulation, by students, of relevant information. Concretely, the present program benefits from the participation of some practitioners in the consulting field, such as: Doru Curteanu (Gemba Consult), Constantin Turmac (Compass Consulting), Renaldo Nita (Dynamic Brand Consulting).
If until now the networking concept was unknown to you, we can demonstrate the importance of a communication network that brings together students, professors, consultants and practitioners from the business field, who are focussed on the implementation of a high standard of excellence on the Romanian market. Within this network you will be connected to colleagues that might become your future collaborators, facilitating the open communication and experience sharing.
You can contribute first as a student, then as a consultant, to the network development, and you can be a part of it, by becoming a Business Consulting Master Program member. You will learn to take initiative and to develop contexts. Between context creators and those evolving in contexts created by other people, there is a distance that has to be covered. The master program will invite you to eliminate the inertia existing in your life and to act independently but, whenever necessary, it will also teach you to work in a team. The partnerships already made with consulting companies in Romania demonstrated us that a network encompassing teachers, students, consultants and businessmen is necessary both for personal education, and for educating the society members. This network shall be also consolidated, as the distance from initiator to developer might be covered only by resorting to the experience of all the persons who are or will be involved in the development of such system. This master program will be developed closely relating to other concepts and systems launched within the Faculty of Administration and Business: SPHERAA (The Educational Sphere), the network of partnerships with high schools in Romania, AERS Scientific Centre (business, ethics and social responsibility), Scientific Centre CSOLUB (The centre of organizational strategies and leadership of Bucharest University). As we are an open system, we are waiting for you suggestions in order to improve the master program, based your previous experiences or on your current views.
        Because the first series of graduates has finished the program, a database with students and alumni has been already created. Given that, we undertake to establish a Business Consulting club for the two Business Consulting Master Programs (Consultanta in Afaceriand Business Consulting) where teachers, students and consultants can meet periodically to debate on topics of interest. The coordinators of the two Business Consulting Master Programs will contact important universities from all over the world having created similar master programs, in order to generate an international network of these programs. Thus, conditions needed for the teachers and students exchanges, at the masters’ level, will be defined.
The master program is organized according to the criteria, standards, and performance indicators established by ARACIS’s (Romanian Agency of Quality Assurance) methodology. The program is in absolute compliance with the Bologna Process requirements, covering 4 semesters, and providing the professional training, theoretical knowledge and competences necessary for the full integration of graduates in the business environment. The program represents the second cycle of academic studies, allowing the consolidation of any knowledge acquired in the business administration field. This has a dynamic character given by its continue harmonization with master programs from countries with tradition in the matter and by the facilitation of some partnerships with similar faculties in Europe.

The master program’s graduates will acquire:
General, communication, and connection-establishment competences:
-         the ability to make coherent presentations of particular issues specific to the business field;
-          the ability to analyse and synthesize notorious models in consultancy and business and to provide pertinent interpretations to economic and business phenomena;
-          the ability to have a creative mind, to act independently and to work in a team;
-          the ability to correlate activities from interdisciplinary fields;
-          the ability to identify solutions to the problems occurred within the consultancy programs.
Practical and cognitive competences:
-          the ability to critically evaluate business contexts and to propose measures able to increase the efficiency of companies’ activities;
-          the ability to set work hypotheses facilitating the finding of solutions to the problems identified within the consultancy programs;
-          the ability to identify the problems manifested at organizational level and to offer solutions to solve them;
-         abilities of negotiation and  communication;
-         the ability to use the computer for business processes;
-          the ability to elaborate an innovatory, well-argued, scientific paper.
Abilities and skills:
-          the ability to use economic knowledge and skills developed within consultancy companies, multinational corporations, small and medium enterprises;
-          the ability to evaluate business contexts and to provide efficient consultancy;
-          the ability to develop and create consultancy programs that correspond to the companies’ (or other types of organizations) needs and interests;
-         the propagation of  an opened, constructive, and performance oriented attitude.

This program offers you the possibility to value the knowledge acquired during the bachelor’s program, creating contexts specific to the achieving of surprising connections with other fields. From this master program perspective, not only the way we perceive reality, but also the original solutions we have to find in order to solve the challenging problems generated by it, are important.
The Faculty of Business and Administration, within which the Business Consultancy Master Program operates, has the opportunity to co-operate, at the University level, with faculties such as: Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy, Mathematics, Communication.

The subject matter – Creative Methods and Techniques in Consultancy – provides the possibility to establish an equilibrium between strictness and innovation within the consultancy teams.
The stakeholders’ analysis performed by us in 2008 revealed the utility of this type of master program in the Romanian Academic environment. The master’s graduates might work not only in the business consultancy field, but also in areas related to the economic activity in general. The interpretation of the economic reality should be at hand not only to consultants, but also to decision makers at company, public institutions, and NGOs level.
